Dawn-Marie Farrell-Smith, M.Ed., LPC

Dawn-Marie helps folx heal from what holds them back in life. She works with adults and adolescents in the state of South Carolina who feel overwhelmed by life’s demands, yet have kept moving forward despite the challenges.

She has experience supporting individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, burnout, and complex trauma. Many of her clients have faced overwhelming events and learned to keep going even when completely depleted. Dawn-Marie is especially skilled at working with late-diagnosed or undiagnosed neurodivergent adults, including those with ADHD, Autism, or Sensory Processing differences.

Dawn-Marie believes that finding the peace you crave involves three steps:

  1. Deciding what truly works for you

  2. Coming to know the parts of yourself you’ve kept hidden

  3. Grieving past experiences that have caused pain

With her guidance, these are the steps you’ll explore in therapy. Congratulations on taking this step toward self-love and self-acceptance — it’s time to show up for yourself the way you show up for others.

Education and Experience

Dawn-Marie began her career in human services in 2010 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from USC Upstate located in Spartanburg, SC in 2013. She went on to earn a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Clemson University located in Clemson, South Carolina in 2018. Since then, she has been providing therapy to children, adolescents, and adults in the Greenville community and beyond.

Dawn-Marie is trained in neurodivergent-affirming care, EMDR, and DBT, giving her a well-rounded perspective on how trauma and neurodivergent experiences impact daily life. These approaches provide a broad toolbox of skills and techniques to help clients manage symptoms and navigate challenges.

Even with these treatment modalities, Dawn-Marie believes the most important part of therapy is the relationship between counselor and client. She prioritizes being genuine and authentic, creating a safe, supportive space where clients feel comfortable exploring their experiences and growth

Life Outside of Counseling

When she’s not working with clients, Dawn-Marie enjoys activities that help her recharge and stay grounded. She loves reading psychological thrillers, adding books to her ever-growing TBR, doing puzzles, exploring nature on hikes or walks in or around Greenville, (especially near a body of water), and experimenting with healthy, comforting meals for her family—though she also enjoys the occasional greasy cheeseburger.

She likes to blow off steam on the racquetball court and belting out her favorite songs in the car.

Creative expression is another passion of hers. Journaling, painting, drawing, and planning fun activities give her opportunities to reflect, problem-solve, and think in new ways. These hobbies help her maintain balance and empathy in her work as a therapist and provide insight into the coping strategies she often shares with clients.

Dawn-Marie values connection, curiosity, and lifelong learning, and she brings that same approach to therapy—meeting clients where they are, honoring their experiences, and celebrating growth along the way.
